Hindi writing and sounds

Build accurate Hindi reading from vowel signs and consonants to joined letters and natural word pronunciation. Three connected lessons separate what the script marks explicitly from what you learn through a word’s ordinary spoken form.

Connect vowel letters and signs with complete words

Start with independent vowel letters and the signs used with consonants. Notice the difference between a mark’s visual position and its spoken order, especially the short i sign.

Native words and reading aids help you inspect the model. Nasalized vowels receive separate attention so that a dot or crescent is not treated as decoration. Produce the spelling before opening the recognition questions.

Keep the consonant contrasts audible

Learn consonants through voicing, aspiration and place of articulation. Dental and retroflex series remain distinct, and a romanized h after a consonant can indicate aspiration rather than a separate English syllable.

The consonant lesson also introduces nasal sounds, borrowed letters and glides. A written quiz checks a choice about the model; listening and speaking are needed to assess the actual sound you produce.

Read consonants together and check inherent vowels

The third lesson explains halant, half forms, doubled consonants and the two common positions of r in a conjunct. It keeps the order of consonants distinct from the graphic placement of their marks.

Natural Hindi can omit an inherent vowel even without a visible halant. The lesson treats this as a word reading pattern with boundaries, not a rule to erase every vowel or invent new spellings.
